Wednesday 4th November 2020 at the Leonay Golf Club to follow completion of AGM.
The meeting was opened by President Les at 2.30pm.
Moved by Chris Evans and seconded by Noel Byles and carried that the same apologies and attendances as the AGM be accepted.
1. Adoption of Council Meeting Minutes held on 5th August 2020
Moved by Bruce Baker, seconded by John Lovatt, and carried that the Minutes of the previous Council Meeting (5.8.20) were a true and accurate record of that meeting.
2. Business arriving from minutes 5th August 2020
Playing dates and possible format for events in 2021 are later in the new agenda.
3. Review of Executive Minutes held 28th September 2020
Payment of NSWVGA membership fees.
The Executive felt, that as a non-profit organization, and that very little interclub golf has been played, that the joining fee for WSRVGA ($2) would be waived, and the $5 fee to NSWVGA would be paid by WSRVGA for 2021.
This would only apply to members at 30th September this year and who are continuing their membership in 2021.
Moved by Mark Mostyn, seconded by Chris Evans, and carried to endorse the payment of these fees.
4. Distribution of funds from NSWVGA grassroots scheme and interclub sponsorship from NSWVGA Strokeplay Championship.
Chris explained that NSWVGA has given $25 vouchers to help each club promote veterans golf. Originally there was 1 voucher for every 50 members (or part thereof) per club. More have since been received.
Strokeplay Championship was cancelled earlier in the year. Golf balls and vouchers for prizes had already been purchased.
These have been divided equally, by value, among the 8 clubs.
They are been given in lieu of the $500 payment for 2021, received from WSRVGA by each club for running interclub events.
5. Sponsorship – The Richmond Club
Les thanked Chris for his fantastic work in securing $3000 in sponsorship from The Richmond Club. The money was received on October 27th.
Chris expressed his gratitude to The Richmond Club.
Richmond Golf Club is currently hosting the 2020 Australian PGA Seniors Championship. Many Richmond Vets are volunteering, so giving back to The Richmond Club. Judy to write a letter of thanks.
6. Playing dates for 2021
Mark Mostyn - Springwood would prefer to change their date (14th May) due to clash with local events.
Jim Lyons offered to ‘swap’ Richmond, Tuesday 20th April new Richmond date.
Springwood would be on Friday 12th/19th March. To be confirmed.
Moved by Mark Mostyn, seconded by Bruce Baker, carried by all, that these dates be amended.
7. Meeting dates for 2021
First Council Meeting date has been changed to 27th January 2021as Judy Jordan would not have been available on 3rd February.
Moved by John Lovatt, seconded by Ian Forrester, carried by all, that the change in date be adopted.
8. Discussion re possible format of interclub events to be played in 2021
Les began the discussion emphasizing that it was vital that we continue with interclub games in 2021. Assuming that the COVID restrictions will be similar to the current conditions, it should be possible to play golf, but there would be no gatherings, presentations etc. Shotgun starts would be doubtful.
Noel Byles presented his proposal. Some of the main points:
- Clubs to reduce teams to 16 players to accommodate 2 tee start.
- A complete draw for the year, means each club has 2 lots of 4 consecutive time slots playing with 4 groups from the same club.
- Club plays with a different club each game, and will rotate through different tee times each game.
- Discussion followed:
- Springwood & Glenmore unable to accommodate 2 tee start.
- The social aspect of the occasion would be lost.
- Main complaints about interclub events – too long, and results take too long to become available.
- Times would need to be adjusted for winter/summer.
- This proposal could work using only 1 tee, but it would be a long day.
John Lovatt asked if Noel could show the draw for the whole year on a spread sheet. This would make it easier to see the whole concept and make a decision.
9. Distribution of membership cards.
These were distributed to each club. Some WOG require proof of membership of NSWVGA.
The numbers are only for the use of each club. They do not need to be recorded by WSRVGA.
10.Notice of Motion to NSWVGA AGM to reduce membership age from 55 to 50 (same as NSW ladies veteran age)
Those who responded to Les were in favour of the motion. It is hoped it will increase participation in WOG. It is very unlikely that the ladies would raise their age requirements. Les will vote in favour of the motion at the AGM of NSWVGA. Only delegates can vote.
11. Discuss procedure to be adopted when member joins WSRVGA after the end of the financial year. (30th September)
Following discussion and reading of relevant sections of WSRVGA Constitution and NSWVGA Policy, a motion was put to the room.
The Financial Year ends on September 30th. Any member who joins prior to this, must renew for the following year. Moved by Ian Forrester, seconded by Mark Mostyn and carried by the room.
Les was asked if he would see how other Associations interpret this.
12. General Business
Dunheved: Wayne Beesley - club house will reopen soon, maybe Monday 16th November.
Penrith: Ian Forrester – announced he will not be a delegate next year. Les thanked him for his contribution.
Leonay: Robert Chruszcz – asked about WOG. Les responded that some were still happening but with restricted entries and conditions.
Bruce Baker – some negatives from the COVID situation. There have been no interclub events, Christmas functions would not be able to be held. Also some positives, increase in the number of players and new numbers. Future looks good.
Springwood: Mark Mostyn – some blessings from COVID. Profits have improved due to Job Keeper etc. The asbestos on the 18th hole has now gone. Costly to get it moved. Membership is also up.
Glenmore: John Lovatt – wanted to wish everyone a happy and healthy 2020 and 21.
Noel Byles – is continuing to work on the history of the Association but is having difficulty contacting some people. (Bill Jamieson) Hopefully he will be able to soon resolve some disagreements over the beginning of the association.
Les concluded the meeting by thanking everyone for their support and attendance and wishing them health and happiness for the coming year.
Meeting closed at 3.50pm
Next meeting 27th January 2021
Judy Jordan
