BUSINESS ARISING FROM THE PREVIOUS MEETING
Noel R asked if the correspondence with Fox Hills concerned them joining WSRVGA?
Judy & Les responded that this was a request from 2 members to join NSWVGA through WSRVGA so they could ‘play golf and travel’. Our response was to contact Tom Mellican who was responsible for organizing Vets at Fox Hills.
Presentations for Club and Player of the Year have not been able to be made, due to no Interclub events being held this year. Presentations were made to those recipients present (Russell Cruickshank) or representatives of the relevant clubs. Shirts will be available soon. Congratulations to all winners.
Les reported that Royce Aged Facility would not be able to sponsor WSRVGA.
REVIEW OF EXECUTIVE MEETING (10/10/06/20)
Meeting mainly concerned with Stroke Play event and disbursement of vouchers etc.
Mick Toohey – Stroke Play Acct will need to be adjusted.
CORRESPONDENCE:
Judy mentioned that NSWVGA has a new public website www.nswvga.com.au
The old domain name is now only used by Group Secretaries to access the Members Register.
Membership details and contacts etc needed to be updated.
Mick Toohey questioned why the Veteran Women’s Golf Assoc and the NSWVGA couldn’t be amalgamated. Les KNOX mentioned that this had been tried unsuccessfully before and briefed the meeting of possible amalgamation in future. The main problem with amalgamation was the difference in age brackets for membership. E.g. Women 50 and men 55.
Chris Evans has emailed Richmond Club seeking sponsorship. He is awaiting a response from the upcoming Board Meeting (18/08/20).
Les asked if Jim Lyons could follow up with Richmond Club, to see if the letter has been received and if any more details are required.
NSWVGA DECISIONS:
As a gesture of appreciation, $300 amount was given to all Tournament Directors of WOG that were cancelled due to the directive of NSWVGA re Covid-19, or cancelled due to severe weather conditions. This was not given to WRSVGA (Strokeplay) as sponsorship money had been retained.
NSWVGA is a non-profit organization, and is wanting to give back to members through Grassroots Prize Scheme. Extra vouchers have been given this year, and will be distributed when Chris returns from Queensland.
Next meeting of the NSWVGA Executive (September) has been cancelled as most country members are unwilling to travel. Contact will be maintained through email.
REVIEW OF NSWVGA STROKEPLAY CHAMPIONSHIPS 2020
Les reported that 5 days out, the Championship needed to be cancelled. The risks were just too great. Much work had been done re draws etc, and we had the best ever quality field.
The clubs were outstanding in their co-operation, particularly Penrith, who were a late replacement for Dunheved (due to flooding).
In 2021it will be held in Dubbo. Hopefully they will have a successful tournament, and we wish them well.
John Baker asked what would happen if it was unsuccessful? Les replied that it was only one of 6 events that NSWVGA run, and some of these happen with fairly low numbers.
From September, W of G will be able to happen. It will be an individual club decision, and either way, supported by the NSWVGA.
Mudgee is the first one; no welcome lunch or presentation dinner, daily winners, and results emailed.
PLAYING DATES FOR 2021
The table covers the next 10 years. 2020 has been transferred to 2021, in the same month.
John Lovatt commented that it had worked well so far, and has the flexibility to adapt for washouts etc.
Greg Burke asked when dates for 2021 would be required? Les suggested they should be brought to the next meeting. Springwood already have theirs, 16th May.
It was moved by Ian Forrester, seconded by Mark Mostyn, and carried, that these dates be accepted.
DISCUSSION RE POSSIBLE EVENTS TO BE PLAYED IN 2020
Les advised that at the moment all scheduled events for this year have been cancelled.
Following discussion about how any other events could take place, it was moved by Greg Burke, seconded John Lovatt and carried, that no events be held this year.
Les would like to see Interclub events return next year, even if in a different format. He asked delegates to give some thought to this and these can be discussed at the AGM, when we should know what restrictions would be in place.
CHANGE OF DATES OF AGM TO 4TH NOVEMBER 2020
There were no objections to the date of the AGM being changed.
GENERAL BUSINESS
(1) John Baker wanted to thank everyone for their support of the “Golfers for Springwood Hospital”. $16,00 was raised for Springwood Hospital.
(2) Ian Forrester mentioned that Penrith Club House is now open and has seating for 306 people under current restrictions.
(3) Ian Forrester explained that GolfNSW have said you can run with ‘local rules’ as long as social distancing and other precautions are being observed, and being policed.
Penrith will have rakes in bunkers, and flags can be removed (with restrictions) for Super Senior event.
(4) John Lovatt wanted it clarified that the balls and vouchers will be distributed when Chris returns to NSW. Les agreed with this, but the date is unknown.
2020 NEXT MEETING 16TH SEPTEMBER
Les noted that as there is not much happening at the moment, it is unlikely that the next Council Meeting will be needed. The Executive will monitor.
Reminder from Les - Nominations for the Executive have to be in a month before AGM (4/11/20).
Chris will not be standing as Treasurer again.
Les would be happy if someone wants to take over as President.
Les thanked all and closed the meeting at 3.20pm
